Sinopsis
Fiction. Fausta suffers from “the milk of sorrow”, a disease transmitted through the breast milk of women raped or battered during the guerrilla war in Peru.
The war ended, but Fausta lives to remember it because “the disease of fear” has stolen her soul. Now the sudden death of her mother will force her to face her fears and the secret that she hides inside: she has inserted a potato into her vagina, as a shield, as a protector, and thinks that this way nobody will dare to touch her.
The Milk of Sorrow is about a pursuit of flourishing. A journey from fear to freedom.
Claudia Llosa was born in Lima in 1976. She has a degree in Film Direction and a Masters in Film and Television Screenwriting from the TAI School of Arts and Cinema in Madrid. She specialized in Film Direction at the University of New York. She was granted the Coral Award for Best Unpublished Screenplay at the Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana, Cuba. Madeinusa was her first feature film. With her film The Milk of Sorrow, she won the Golden Bear Award at Berlin International Film Festival.
