You Come from Far Away

Sinopsis

Documentary. Imagine that you have siblings but you can’t talk to them because you don’t speak the same language. Imagine that you have parents but you were raised without them. The film tells the extraordinary story of a Palestinian family which was dispersed by several turmoils that steer the last century as if the 20th century was summed up in the life of a single family: From the Spanish Civil War in which the father Najati Sidki fought against Franco to World War II, Nakba and Lebanese Civil War.


Amal Ramsis

Amal Ramsis was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1972 and in 1993 she graduated form the Faculty of Law in Cairo. In 1992, she was one of the founders of the Women’s Studies Centre, “Ma’an” (together), in Egypt and in 2002, she obtained a grant from the Spanish Foreign Ministry to study film directing at the “Septima Ars” Cinema School in Madrid. She also founded the Cairo International Women’s Film Festival, the first annual women’s film festival in Arab World and is leading the international program’s women’s workshop series known as “Correspondence between Women”. She has directed and produced Only Dreams Forbidden, The Trace of the Butterfly and You Come From Far Away, which have obtained international awards and have been screened in art venues and festivals around the world.
