Peret, yo soy la rumba (Peret, I’m the Rumba)

Peret, yo soy la rumba
Peret, I’m the Rumba

Sinopsis

Documentary. From Mataró animal pens to the stages around the world, the artistic and personal adventure of Peret, the artist who, with a little mambo, a jet of tanguillo and a pinch of rock, created the Catalan rumba. 50 years after the success of the Borriquito song, the maestro’s grandchildren star in an intimate portrait of the Peret family, with Andreu Buenafuente as the narrator. God, the family and the rumba is the triumvirate that presides over a film that does not shy away from explaining the bitterness with which Peret lived the absurd controversy over the paternity of the Catalan rumba. It describes a complex personality, the result of the tension between the gypsy world and the payo world, between poverty and wealth, between truth and picaresque.

Paloma Zapata

After moving to Barcelona from Murcia, she developed a career of more than 10 years as director and international producer of music video clips. In 2017 she premiered her first musical documentary, Casamance, the Soundtrack of a Journey, filmed in Senegal, which achieved recognition at festivals such as FICG, GZDOC and IFFR, and was broadcast on television channels such as Al Jazeera and Movistar +. In 2018 she premiered Peret, I am the rumba her second documentary feature, which comes after a three-year immersion in the family of the musician Peret, and the community of Catalan gypsies in Barcelona. La Singla, dancing in silence, in the development, will be her third feature film.
