Arima
Sinopsis
Fiction. Arima is the story of four women and a little girl, whose lives are disturbed by the unexpected arrival of two strangers. One of them runs away from the other, and hides from him, like a slippery character or a ghost of uncertain existence. His pursuer is wounded and carries a weapon. He will disturb the quiet life of the women in many different ways. All of this happens in a no man’s land between reality and imagination, between dreams and nightmares, between fear and desire, in a story set in mystery.
Jaione Camborda finished her cinematography studies in the Film Schools of Prague and Munich. She then moved to Galicia in Spain, where she started the production company Esnatu Zinema and worked as a director of pieces shot with experimental materials such as Proba de Axilidade, Nimbos, Lilit and Rapa das Bestas (Proof of Agility, Clouds, Lilith and Animals Sheared). This last piece, for example, received two awards in the Barcelona Festival L’Alternativa – the Filming Crater-Lab Award and the Award from the Associated Scriptwriters of Catalunya. Rapa das Bestas received also the Curtocircuito Award (Short-circuit Award) in Santiago de Compostela, with an Honor Mention given by the Young Jury. At the Fidocs Festival (in Santiago, Chile) this same movie received the Award to the Best Film, in the International Competition of Short Films. In her shorts, Jaione chooses to use the Super 8 format as her own recognizable brand, exuding confidence in images, in material consistency and in the lyrical definition. In all of her films, this filmmaker has addressed the relationship between humans and animal nature, violence, and ancestral characteristics in our heritage, from an ethnographical perspective.
Before directing the feature film Arima, Jaione worked as a scriptwriter in movies such as Los fenómenos, and as an art director in films such as Las altas presiones (High Pressures). This movie received the Award ‘Las Nuevas Olas’ (The New Waves) at the Seville European Film Festival in 2011.
