La hija de un ladrón (A Thief’s Daughter)
Sinopsis
Fiction. Sara has always been alone. She is 22 and she has a baby, now. She wants to have a normal family with her baby, her younger brother, and the father of her child. But when he gets out of jail, her own father, Manuel, decides to show up again in their lives, after years of absence. Sara knows he is the main obstacle in her plans and she takes a difficult decision: she will make him get away from her and from her brother.
Belén Funes is a scriptwriter and a director. In 2003, she started her training at the Cinematography and Visual Arts School ESCAC, where she graduated as a Cinematography Director. She also made her first short films at this School. Later, in 2008, she got a university grant enabling her to attend the Master on Scriptwriting at the Cuban Film School, in San Antonio de los Baños. Afterward, she started to work in the film industry as an assistant director and in the casting department of several productions. At the same time, she also worked as a scriptwriter and she met respected film directors such as Isabel Coixet, who produced her first short, Sara a la Fuga (Sara´s Runaway), co-written with the scriptwriter Marçal Cebrian. This short film received two awards in the Malaga Festival: Biznaga Award to the Best Director and Biznaga Award to the Best Short Film. it was also selected in prestigious national and international competitions, like the Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival, the Zagreb Film Festival, the Sao Paulo Film Festival, and the Gijón International Film Festival. Sara a la Fuga (Sara´s Runaway) was also nominated in the 30th edition of the Goya Awards. Her second short entitled La Inútil (The Hopeless) held its world-wide Premiere at the Seminci, Valladolid International Film Festival.
