Jane Gaines, Professor of Film at Columbia University and curator of the special programm Silent Cinema by Women Across Continents: The U.S., Europe, Latin America and Asia, organised by the Festival and Filmoteca Española, will give a lecture at the Cine Doré to present the Women Film Pioneers Project, a project she founded (in collaboration with Columbia University). Through this project, she has spent three decades bringing to light the work of women directors, screenwriters, producers and other professionals in the film industry who have been constantly made invisible throughout history. Her work, along with that of many other academics, has led to the discovery that, indeed, the presence of women filmmakers during the silent period was notably more important than originally believed.
The conference will be followed by a discussion with the audience. Subsequent screening of the first session of the special programm, that will be dedicated to the French filmmaker Alice Guy Blaché, with the screening of two short films, one produced in France and the other in the USA.
Presentation by Carlota Álvarez Basso, Co-director of Madrid Films by Women Festival, and María Luque, Head of cultural affairs at the Fundación Consejo España-Estados Unidos.
Organized in collaboration with the Fundación Consejo España-EEUU.
