Sinopsis
In “Life on tape” director Melanie Lischker reconstructs the life of her mother, whom she barely remembers, from over 100 hours of family video footage. But there's a shadow on everyday life. With his camera the father documents how, in between Christmas celebrations and school events, the mother becomes more and more a shadow of her former self. At first, she disappears from the recordings, later on from the family all together. Father, brother and sister are left and the family construct crumbles. With her film the director challenges her family to break their decades-long silence concerning the loss of the mother.
Melanie Lischker was born in Düsseldorf in 1983. In 2014, she completed her film editing studies at the Konrad Wolf Film and Television School in Potsdam-Babelsberg. She worked on the editing of several narrative, documentary and experimental films and in 2015 she returned to her own projects. “Life on Tape” is her first directorial feature film debut.
