Oscar winner Marion Cotillard plays the writer Carole Achache, daughter of the writer Monique Lange – Juan Goytisolo's partner for 20 years. With this fascinating recreation signed by Carole Achache's daughter, film director Mona Achache, Cotillard became the first French actress to be nominated for the César Award for Best Actress in a documentary film.
fter her mother's death, Mona Achache discovers thousands of photos, letters and recordings, but these buried secrets make her disappearance even more of an enigma. Through the power of filmmaking and the beauty of incarnation, she brings her mother back to life to retrace her journey and find out who she really was.
Mona Achache is a French-Moroccan film director and screenwriter. She has occasionally played a few small roles. After studying literature and theatre, Mona Achache became an assistant director and then a screenwriter for fiction films and documentaries. Her first feature film, Le Hérisson, was released in 2009 in France and then in more than thirty countries. Mona Achache has written several scripts. She is a member of the French Collectif 50/50, which aims to promote gender equality and diversity in the film and audiovisual industries.
