Sinopsis

Marie, an Ivorian pastor and former journalist, has been living in Tunisia for ten years. Her home becomes a refuge for Naney, a young mother seeking a better future, and Jolie, a strong-willed student carrying her family’s hopes. The arrival of a little orphan girl challenges their sense of solidarity in a tense social climate, revealing both their fragility and strength.

Erige Sehiri (France, Tunisia)

Erige Sehiri is a French-Tunisian director, producer, and former journalist whose work bridges documentary and fiction. She debuted with the acclaimed documentary Railway Men (2018), and in 2022 wrote, directed, and produced her first feature, Under the Fig Trees, a tender portrait of rural youth and working life. The film premiered at the 54th Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes and was Tunisia’s submission to the 2023 Oscars. It screened at major international festivals and was released in over 20 countries. Sehiri is a strong advocate for freedom of expression and co-founded INKYFADA and the NGO Al Khatt. She is also a founding member of Rawiyat–Sisters in Film. Her second feature, Promised Sky, will premiere in Un Certain Regard at Cannes.
