Las chicas (The Girls)

Flickorna
Las chicas

Sinopsis

From the famous Swedish actress, novelist and film director. The film narrates the misadventures of three actresses (the renowned Bibi Andersson, Harriet Andersson and Gunnel Lindblom) who tour Sweden with a theatrical production of Lysistrata, performing before an audience that often doesn’t understand the play. The three of them see their own lives and marriages reflected in the work by Aristophanes. Soon, the drama on stage, the reality outside of it, and surreal fantasies begin to collide.

Mai Zetterling (Sweden)

Mai Zetterling (1925–1994) was a Swedish actress, screenwriter and director whose work defied the conventions of her time. She began her career as an actor in Swedish cinema, achieving international recognition with Hets (1944) by Alf Sjöberg. In the fifties she worked in the United Kingdom and Hollywood, but in the early sixties she took a turn towards directing. Her feature films, including Älskande par (1964), Nattlek (1966) and Flickorna (1968), explored female sexuality, identity and gender inequalities, which provoked both controversy and admiration. She also directed documentaries and television projects. Zetterling established herself as a pioneer of European feminist cinema, renowned for her formal and thematic audacity, and her legacy continues to inspire new generations.
