Discussion between Pilar Castro, actress, and María Adell, researcher, teacher and film critic. In this talk-colloquium we will have the opportunity to learn about the career and work of Pilar Castro, one of the most consolidated actresses of her generation, as well as to understand and analyse the challenges faced by actresses today.
Pilar Castro is one of the most consolidated actresses of her generation, her career includes collaborations with directors of the stature of Pedro Almodóvar, Carlos Saura, Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, among many others.
In 2010 the Spanish Film Academy nominated her for the Goya Awards in the category of Best Actress for her performance in the comedy Fat People (2009), by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo and she obtained, for this same film, the Unión de Actores Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2020 she was nominated for Best Leading Actress at the Forqué Awards, Feroz Awards and the medals of the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos for her performance in the film Advantages of traveling by Train by Aritz Moreno (2019)
Pilar has won awards for Best Actress in multiple Festivals such as the Malaga Film Festival, Zaragoza Film Festival, Almería en corto, Medina del campo, Badajoz and the San Pancracio Award of the Cáceres Film Festival.
Currently, she has successfully premiered the HBO series Rage, with which she is garnering very good reviews both nationally and internationally. In November 2025, she will release the film she stars in Every Side of the Bed directed by Samantha Speranza.

María Adell Carmona is a teacher and researcher. She holds a PhD from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Library Science, Documentation and Audiovisual Communication at the University of Barcelona. She regularly writes about film and television in media such as the newspaper Ara, Filmtopia and Rockdelux. She has written articles and book chapters on film stars, actresses in the cinema of the Franco regime and the transition, female representations in film and television, Spanish cinema and popular culture. For more than a decade, she belonged to the teaching staff of the ESCAC-Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya, where she taught film history and Spanish cinema and co-directed the Master's Degree in Film Studies and Visual Cultures.
