Vera, un cuento cruel

Southern France, 19th century. Alfredo de Quiroga, a Spanish gentleman in exile, cannot come to terms with the idea that his wife, Vera, is dead. So deeply affected is he that everything in the house continues as if she were still alive. In this fiction, he has the support and loyalty of his faithful butler. But one day, by chance, he meets the notary’s daughter, and his whole world begins to crumble.

Josefina Molina Reig (Córdoba, November 14, 1936 – Madrid, May 30, 2026) was a Spanish film director, screenwriter, television director, novelist and theatre director. A true pioneer of women’s filmmaking in Spain, in 1969 she became the first woman to earn a directing degree from the Official School of Cinematography.

In 1973, she directed her first feature film, Vera, un cuento cruel. Among her best-known works are the television series El camino and Teresa de Jesús.

In 2006, she co-founded CIMA, of which she is Honorary President, and in 2021 she co-founded the Andalusian Film Academy.
