2024 SPANISH CINEMA DAY+ FILMS BY SPANISH FEMALE AUTHORS


On the occasion of the 2024 Spanish Cinema Day, we present the 10 films competing in the Spanish Section 

In addition, feature films by Spanish female directors, out of competition, will be included in the 7th edition programming of the Madrid Films by Women Festival.

Madrid Films by Women Festival joins the SPANISH CINEMA DAY, which will be celebrated next Sunday, October 6th, by announcing the 10 feature films in the Spanish Competition. Additionally, out of competition, 3 feature films, 1 TV series, and 5 short films directed by Spanish female authors will be screened as part of the 7th edition Program. Spanish cinema can also be enjoyed from home. 8madridTV will broadcast 4 films by Spanish female directors on prime time. On the festival's section on Filmin, more than 31 titles will be also available.For the very first time, the festival will show a TV series: the four episodes of Querer by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, Cinco Lobitos's director, who won the Spanish Competition at the 2022 Madrid Films by Women Festival.

As in previous years, thanks to the collaboration with the Fundación SGAE, the Madrid Films by Women Festival will program the Spanish Competition screenings at the Sala Berlanga. The Festival's Programming Committee has carefully selected 10 feature films produced in 2024. Either premiering in Madrid or re-released, they  will compete for the Best Spanish Film Award at the 2024 Madrid Films by Women Festival. The award,  will be presented at the Closing gala and granted by 3 critics from the Blogos de Oro Awards Association: Beatriz Jiménez, journalist and film critic; Roberto Martín, director and screenwriter; and Susana Cabeza, founder of the blogs "Claqueta Luces y Acción" and "Fotografía y Lugares".

The Spanish Cinema Day offers a great opportunity to make visible, recover, and recall the particular vision of Spanish professionals who have enriched our country audiovisual landscape with their unique perspectives and voices. This is the reason to include other Spanish female directors out of competition.

III.  Closing Gala.  2024 Awards Ceremony and closing film screening

Spanish cinema will also take centre stage at the closing ceremony after the presentation of the 2024 festival’s awards.  The International Jury will grant the 2024 Best International Film Award. Three members of the Blogos de Oro Awards Association  will confer the Best Spanish Film Award 2024, sponsored by RC Service. The award to the winning director is made up  of €3,000 discounts on film equipment rentals, as well as a latest model Xiaomi 14T mobile phone, courtesy of Xiaomi Iberia.

Afterwards, the latest film by Juana Macías, “Las chicas de la estación” will premiere in Madrid.📍Palacio de la Prensa. Plaza de Callao nº 4.

IV. Parallel Sections The collaborating venues of the Festival join in the celebration of Spanish Cinema Day. In collaboration with the Pedro Zerolo Foundation and Acción Triángulo, six documentaries by Spanish female directors will be screened as part of the '"Intersectionalities Cycle".

The local television channel 8madrid TV joins the festival once again by programming 6 feature films, 4 of which directed by Spanish female authors from various decades and topics. The films will be broadcast on prime time between Oct. 31st and Nov. 9th:
