Festival de Cine por Mujeres will celebrate 10 days of professional activities online
The third edition of the Festival will pay special attention to female professionals in animation and film photography in Spain with a complete program of training activities where participation is free and without leaving home
Training continues to be an essential pillar of the Festival with online lectures, round tables and presentations with the participation of international female experts and directors, sharing their experience with the public in Madrid. This year, the focus is on photography and animation professionals in cinema.
There will be 3 round tables, 1 lecture, 1 course and many dialogues and film presentations by their directors. All this with the aim to achieve a goal: give visibility to the work and the standpoint of women in the five sections of the film value production chain (creation and training > production and use > promotion and marketing > distribution and commercialization > consumer use and accessibility).
This year, most of the activities will be carried out virtually and will be broadcast online thanks to the support and technical resources of the Regional Community of Madrid, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Goethe Institut Madrid, Casa de América and RosssCammm.
On Thursday, November 5, the program will begin with the first round table, focused on giving visibility to female professionals of the Spanish animation industry.
The activity will feature Chelo Loureiro, member of the board of directors of CIMA and CEO of Abano Producións; Alicia Núñez Puerto, Chairwoman of the Association of Women in the Animation Industry; Elysa Castro, a member of Art Direction in Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles; Belli Ramírez, Production Director of Planet 51; Maite Ruiz de Austri, screenwriter and director, winner of 4 Goya Awards; and Marisa Román, producer of Klaus, winner of a BAFTA, of 7 Annie Awards and nominated to an Oscar.

Thanks to the cooperation of Casa de América, on Friday, November 6, three Latin American female directors will be with us at the Festival’s online window with Points of View. A Dialogue with Lucía Garibaldi, Yvette Paz-Soldán and Sofía Quirós Úbeda, an activity where they will tell us how it was to shoot the films they present at the Festival.
Monday, November 9 will be devoted to female cinematographers with a round table and a lecture giving a broad vision of the profession, both nationally and internationally.
At the round table, we will listen to the following panelists: Raquel Fernández Núñez, Director of photography in films, advertising and documentaries, and the winner of the Award to Best Female Cinematographer at the Women’s Independent Film Festival in Los Angeles; Teresa Medina, President of AEC, the Spanish Association of Directors of Photography; Nuria Roldós, Vice-President of AEC; and Rita Noriega, nominated and winner of awards for her work in feature films, shorts, TV series, documentaries and commercials. The table will be moderated by Jara Yánez, editor and film critic.

Sophie Winqvist, swedish Cinematography Director in documentaries, fiction movies, short films, advertising, and video clips, offers the conference “Working with Light. Cinematography Direction”
In addition, Sophie Winqvist, the renowned cinematographer born in Sweden, well-known for her work in documentary, fiction and short films, and in music video clips, will deliver a lecture explaining her experiences as an international director of photography, and in her latest film, Aniara.
On Tuesday, November 10, Espacio Fundación Telefónica will host a round table with some of the female film directors who participate in the Festival with their films. It will feature Lucía Garibaldi, director of The Sharks (Los Tiburones), from Uruguay; Yvette Paz-Soldán, director of the Bolivian film The Tune of the Wind (La tonada del viento); Sonja Prosenc, Slovenian director of History of Love; Chus Gutiérrez, who directed Rol & Rol; and Agnieszka Zwiefka, director of the Polish film Scars.

Sonja Prosenc and Lucía Garibaldi will attend the round table “How did you get there? Case studies of the female Cinematography Directors who are part of the Festival.”
As a new feature this year and thanks to the collaboration of the Goethe Institut Madrid, the first online course of the Festival will take place on November 12, 13 and 14.
Structured in three sessions, Between us, Women, and German Cinema will examine the work of female German directors of narrative and experimental cinema, actresses who left a significant mark on the work of other filmmakers, and collaborations between professional women from various fields of cinema.
The course will be taught by Nuria Cubas, founder of FILMADRID International Film Festival. She is part of the selection committee of the Official Competition ‘Punto de Vista’ in Navarra International Documentary Film Festival. She stands out in her teaching work for her participation in the Course ‘(R)evolutions’ of LAV AudioVisual Laboratory of Contemporary Creation and Practices.
