Ama
Sinopsis
Fiction. Ama portraits the myth of maternity telling the story of many women exposed to loneliness during the motherhood. After several warnings, Ade throws her friend Pepa out of her house, so she ends up on the street, homeless, with Leila, her six-year-old daughter. With no one to help them, Pepa and Leila will fight alone to find a place to live. Facing every obstacle, they will undertake a search and a rapprochement within their previously practically non-existent and distant relationship. A new bond will be created between mother and daughter, where mistakes and the end of idealizing will happen.
Júlia de Paz Solvas began her film studies at the age of 18 at the prestigious ESCAC University (Barcelona), specializing in film directing. As a final career project, Júlia made the short film Ama, seeking to represent motherhood from a point of view totally free of common mythology. With this short film she has toured Festivals such as New Films New Directors (Portugal), Directed by women (Spain), VisuElles Film Festival (Canada), Bendita tú Female Short Film (Argentina), FESCIGU (Guadalajara) and the Pávez Awards festival (Toledo). She has received awards such as the Videolab Award for Best Spanish Short Film at the Mecal Festival, the Best Actress Award at the Ávila Film Festival and at the Cortogenia Festival in Madrid. In 2018, at the latest edition of Ibicine, Ibiza Film Festival, she obtained the La Dalia Films Special Award, consisting in the adaptation and production of the short film into a feature film. Ama, was shot during the pandemic in March and June 2020.
