Entre perro y lobo

Documentary. Immersed in the depths of the Cuban jungle, three ex-combatants from the Angolan War are reluctant to abandon the revolutionary spirit that united them as comrades more than thirty years ago. Always on guard, they train every day dressed in their old uniforms in an endless mission: a war game in which they are still valid, strong and, above all, spiritually young. They are the last samurais of the Cuban Revolution.

Irene Gutiérrez is a researcher and award-winning documentarian born in Ceuta. She has been co-director of the Master in Documentary Film at the San Antonio de los Baños International Film School (EICTV, Cuba) and coordinator of the Master in Script for Film and Television at the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M, Spain). She has directed Diarios de frontera (2013), Hotel Nueva Isla (2014), Connected Walls (2015), Diarios de Exilio (2019) and Entre el perro y el lobo (2020). Her films have been shown at festivals and art venues such as the Berlinale, Rotterdam IFFR, MoMA and Lincoln Center. She has received funding from, among others, the General TFI Tribeca, the Sundance Institute, and the General Consulate of Spain in New York. She is currently a doctoral fellow with a scholarship from the European Research Commission 'Reel Borders' research project (VUB, Vrije Universiteit Brussels) and from the 'Cinema and Mobility' research project (Universidad Carlos III of Madrid). Her films and her research link the intimate portrait with the landscape as an expression of the political tensions between the individual and the nation.
