Sinopsis
Hildegart is conceived and educated by her mother Aurora to be the woman of the future, becoming one of the most brilliant minds in Spain in the 30s and one of the European references on female sexuality.
Paula Ortiz is a film director and screenwriter. She holds a PhD in Art History, graduated in 2002 in Hispanic Philology from the University of Zaragoza and completed a master’s degree in writing for Film and Television at the UAB (2003). In addition, she trained in film directing at the Department of Film and TV of the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (2006 and 2007). She also studied for a master's degree in screenwriting and literary theory at UCLA (2008 and 2009), the main film training center in Los Angeles.
In March 2012 she premiered her first feature film, De tu ventana a la mía, starring Maribel Verdú, won numerous national and international awards, and had a great commercial career. In December 2015 she premiered La novia, a free adaptation of the play Bodas de Sangre, by Federico García Lorca. The premiere of the film took place at the 63rd Edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, obtaining unanimous acclaim from critics. The film has been nominated and awarded widely at the 2016 Goya Awards, 2016 Feroz Awards, 2016 CEC Awards.
In addition, she has directed TV series such as En Casa (2020) for HBO and an episode of Historias para no dormir (2020) for Prime Video. In 2021 she shot the film Across the river and into the trees, the adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's novel, with Liev Schreiber as the main protagonist. The film, a major international production shot in Venice, was released in 2023.
In the same year, 2023, she premiered at SEMINCI the feature film Teresa, based on the dramatic piece La lengua en pedazos, by Juan Mayorga (National Literature Award) starring Blanca Portillo and Asier Etxeandia. In 2024 she has released La virgen roja, based on the true story of Hildegart Rodríguez and starring Najwa Nimri and Alba Planas.
