Yesterday, Tuesday 29th, we celebrated the Opening Gala at the Palacio de la Prensa de Callao. It was a great joy to have the participation of directors, actresses, experts and prominent personalities from the audiovisual, cultural and political sector. Among others, we were honoured with the presence of Gonzalo Cabrera, DG of Culture and Creative Industries of the Community of Madrid; Nacho Carballo, Film Advisor of the Community of Madrid; Jazmín Beirak. DG of Cultural Rights of the Ministry of Culture; Margaret Chen, President of China-Club Spain; Kristian Henk. Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum in Spain and Enno Drofenik. Former Austrian Ambassador to Spain, Fernando Santiago, President of the Official Association of Administrative Managers, Ingrid Arroyo, Brand Manager of Hijos de Rivera, the designer Chus Bures, as well as representatives of foreign cultural institutes in Madrid and various embassies such as those of Germany, Brazil, France, and the Netherlands. Among the industry personalities in attendance were producer Gerardo Herrero, Italian producer Francesca van der Stay, Elena Vilardel from Ibermedia, photo director Javier Salmones, directors such as Inés París, Blanca Torres, Margarita Ledo and actresses such as Silvia Marsó, Olivia Molina, among others. After the speeches by the two directors of the festival, who shared their views on the importance of making the work of women in film more visible and presented the content of the entire edition, the former Austrian Ambassador to Spain spoke, presenting Focus Austria; Mariela Besuievsky (Uruguay), film producer and executive producer, and Marta Nieto (Spain), actress and director, spoke about their work as members of the international jury; and Marta Nieto (Spain), actress and director, spoke about their work as members of the international jury, and finally, the Cine por Mujeres Madrid 2024 Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the film critic, writer and researcher Nuria Vidal, for her invaluable contribution to film criticism over the last 40 years, making her an essential point of reference for film analysis in our country.
