Films by Women Madrid is back! 📅 From October 28th to November 9th 2025
Book these thirteen autumn days full of cinema, culture and meetings with fascinating professional women from Spanish and international cinema!
We are very happy to announce the dates of Films by Women Madrid VIII edition! From Tuesday October 28th to Sunday November 9th 2025, Madrid will again become the epicentre of cinema directed by women, with a selection of around 70 international and Spanish feature films, either fiction, documentary or animation.
📍17 venues
This edition will be held in 17 venues throughout the city centre:
Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España, Biblioteca Nacional de España, Casa de América, Casa Árabe en Madrid, Cinemateca Pedro Zerolo, Cines Verdi, Cinesa Proyecciones, Cineteca Madrid, DAMA. Derechos de Autor de Medios Audiovisuales, Escuela de Postgrado de la Universidad Camilo José Cela, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Fundación Casa de México en España, Fundación SGAE (Sala Berlanga), Goethe Institut Madrid, Instituto Francés, Museo Thyssen Bornemisza and Sala Equis.
🇫🇷 Focus France
Each year, our FOCUS section is dedicated to a different country to showcase the richness and diversity of women’s filmmaking. This 2025, our guest country is… France! Focus France 2025 will be a space to discover the most recent and powerful French female voices, with a selection of films to be screened at Instituto Francés and Academia de Cine.
📚 Professional and educational activities
As for every edition, there will be no shortage of professional and educational activities: meetings, roundtable discussions, master classes and presentations, to promote knowledge and equity in all stages of filmmaking.
🎉 Opening and closing galas
So you don’t miss it, we also want to reveal… Where the festival opening and closing galas will be held! On October 28th we will celebrate the start of the festival with an opening gala at Cinesa Proyecciones on Fuencarral Street, and on November 9th we will hold the closing gala at Cineteca Madrid.
📺 Online programme
If you can’t attend in person, don’t worry! A large part of the programme will be available online through the Filmin platform, and 8madrid TV will broadcast a special program of films directed by women.
Since 2018, Films by Women Madrid has established itself as a platform to showcase films directed BY women (not FOR women nor ABOUT women), programming for all kinds of audience, with special attention to future generations. In its eighth edition, the festival continues to be committed to a plural and diverse cinema where each of the spectators will find, at least, one film of its interest.
