The 4th Madrid Cine por Mujeres Festival joins the new annual occasion to celebrate: THE SPANISH CINEMA DAY (OCTOBER 6th) announcing the films that will be part of the “Spanish Authors Competition” section.
The Spanish Cinema Day initiative, launched by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports, through the Institute of Cinematography and Audio-Visual Arts (ICAA), was born with the aim of “Recognizing the role of filmmakers, and their influence and importance in the cultural and social life of our country, as well as the heritage value of our cinema. A collective way of claiming the weight and importance of our cinema as a cultural heritage, as well as the decisive importance it has in the creation of our identity and common imagination”.
Thanks to the collaboration of the Fundación SGAE, the 4th edition of the Madrid Cine por mujeres Festival will screen in the Sala Berlanga a carefully selected range of 14 feature films produced between 2019 and 2021 that will compete for the Best Spanish Film Award of the Film Festival for women and will be chosen for this occasion by the Programming Committee of the Festival. The Best Spanish Film Award, 3,000 € in film equipment rental discounts courtesy of RC Service, will be decided by the critics of the ‘Asociación Premios Blogos de Oro’ María Cabal, Daniel Farriol and Susana Cabeza. In addition, during many film screenings the directors will be present to introduce their creation and debate with the audience after the screening.
The section will open on Thursday, October 28th, at 6.30 pm, with the out-of-competition screening of Ana Mariscal's feature film, ‘El camino’ (The Path) recently restored and screened at the Cannes Festival. It is an adaptation of the homonymous novel by Miguel Delibes. The ceremony will be hosted by the festival's co-director Ms Álvarez Basso together with David García, son of the film's director, and Fernando Zamácola, Director of the Miguel Delibes Foundation.
Furthermore, in the “International Competition” section, there will also be a Spanish presence, the young director Clara Roquet, who will come to present her film “Libertad”.
